Life's Little Speed Bumps
By Susan M. Pendley
In the cacophony of the city
we forget to listen
as if everything
is supposed to be this way.
Until sound stops
like a vacuum
in this ever-moving chaos.
Looking past others,
strangers on the street.
Never seeing humanity,
and then smack, we run into
a hulk of a guy who doesn't budge.
We stumble back
and look up into his face.
What do we see? Rage?
Or while buying groceries,
we swing our cart around the corner
and run into a sweet old lady.
Do we consider how a small bump
can disrupt such delicate balance?
